Gaza Bleeds: Israeli Strikes Kill Palestinian Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) A Palestinian was killed and a second wounded Thursday in separate Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, as violations of a ceasefire in place since October continue to mount, a medical source reported.

An Israeli drone strike claimed the life of a Palestinian in the southern city of Rafah, the source said. In a distinct incident, another Palestinian sustained gunshot wounds from Israeli fire in the northern city of Beit Lahia.

Israeli forces have carried out near-daily ceasefire breaches through shelling and live fire since the agreement came into effect, killing 736 Palestinians and injuring 2,035 others in that period, according to the medical source.

The ceasefire followed two years of devastating conflict that Israel launched in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023 — a campaign that critics and international bodies have characterized as genocide — conducted with US backing. The war and its aftermath have left more than 72,000 Palestinians dead and over 172,000 wounded, while reducing approximately 90% of the territory's infrastructure to rubble.
