Palestinian, Jordanian Leaders Condemn Israeli Actions in West Bank
The leaders met in Amman to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, as well as broader regional and international issues, according to reports.
During the meeting, they strongly condemned Israeli cabinet decisions that they said aim to advance annexation in the West Bank, expand settlements, and target Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque. They described the measures as “a serious violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions and are intended to undermine Palestinian state institutions and the two-state solution.”
Abbas also highlighted potential threats to regional stability, noting “the risks posed by the decisions to regional security and stability, particularly amid concerns over Muslim and Christian holy sites and with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan,” according to reports. He emphasized the importance of joint Palestinian-Jordanian efforts and underscored Jordan’s role in safeguarding holy sites under Hashemite custodianship.
He urged US President Donald Trump to reaffirm his commitment to halting displacement and annexation, referring to pledges made in September during discussions with Arab and Islamic leaders in New York about his 21-point plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
Abbas further called for urgent meetings of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the UN Security Council, reiterating the need to begin implementing the second phase of the US plan.
